Reducing food waste in Castle Point
We are pleased to be working with Sainsbury's Local in Benfleet to keep our Community Fridge stocked. Members of the public are also welcome to donate their surplus fresh fruit, veg, dried and tinned goods to the fridge. Items must not be passed their 'use by' date and pre-packed food e.g. dried goods must be in unopened packs.
The Community Fridge is an environmental project with the aim of reducing the amount of food wastage. The idea is that anyone can take what they need and donate what they won't use. There's no restriction on who can benefit - it's open to all.
And for anyone that doesn't feel comfortable in taking food from the fridge you can always drop a donation into our charity tin.
The Community Fridge is part of the community café project operated by Carers Choices. The Coffee Grind is largely staffed by volunteers but open to all to use. As well as drinks and food the café has a range of good quality second hand books and free use of computers.
If anyone has fruit or veg they would like to donate for The Community Fridge it can be dropped into it into The Coffee Grind which is open Monday to Friday and can be found located behind Castle Point Council Offices in Kiln Road, Benfleet.
