Reducing food waste in Castle Point
We are now acception donations of fresh fruit and veg to stock up the Community Fridge. The Community Fridge is an environmental project with the aim of reducing the amount of food wastage. The idea is that anyone can take what they need and donate what they won't use. There's no restriction on who can benefit - it's open to all.
Michaela White from the charity said "This time of year people are starting to harvest produce from their allotments or gardens. The Community Fridge is an ideal way for any surplus fresh produce to be shared and used by others."
The Community Fridge is part of the community café project operated by Carers Choices. The Coffee Grind is largely staffed by volunteers but open to all to use. As well as drinks and food the café has a range of good quality second hand books and free use of computers.
If anyone has fruit or veg they would like to donate for The Community Fridge it can be dropped into it into The Coffee Grind which is open Monday to Friday and can be found located behind Castle Point Council Offices in Kiln Road, Benfleet.
